Community - Campus Day of Service

On Saturday, April 5th, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign kicked off National Volunteer Week with an inaugural Community-Campus Day of Service. Over 60 students, faculty and staff worked with six community partners on seven projects to complete pre-construction projects, community garden spring preparation projects, flyering in the community, reorganizing classrooms at Tap in Leadership Academy, cataloging choral literature, and preparing a Bee Garden. A big thank you goes out to all who helped on April 5!

Outreach Weekend Report - November 13-13, 2009

Weekend Summary
After years in the making, The Joseph Center/Eagle’s Nest of St. Clair County is ready to open its doors!!! Friday November 13th, 2009 yielded the milestone Dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony, officially opening the doors of the facility to homeless veterans looking to rebuild and sustain their lives. FAA 291 and 391 students greeted guests, handed out programs and ‘Help-A-Vet’ stickers, accepted donations, assisted with refreshments and building tours. The ceremony kicked off at 11am, which was welcomed by MC, Reverend Sanford, followed by the Presentation of Colors by the USTRANSCOM Color Guard. The ceremony was full of warm-hearted speeches, including speeches by Mayor Alvin Parks, City of East St Louis, Evelyn Paul, and Command Sergeant Major Tomas R. Hawkins. Martha Watts, founder and visionary of The Joseph Center, ended with remarks expressing her deepest thanks to all of those in attendance and those donors and volunteers that made this effort possible. Following the prayer of dedication and the ribbon cutting ceremony, those in attendance were taken on facility tours led by FAA 391 students. A light lunch and dessert, prepared by Chef Denny, was served to the guests by FAA 291 students. It was a beautiful day for such a beautiful celebration!
