Trash

No sidewalks

Dilapidated buildings

Bad sewage system

Improper street labeling/signs

Lack of school crossing markings

Street lighting

Speeding

Drug activity

No pedestrian crossing

Stray dogs

Lack of police protection

Poor education systems

Flooding streets/poor drainage system

Few or no bus shelters

Lack of governmental concern or intervention within the neighborhood

Absentee property owners

Presence of political officials who represent the East St. Louis are but do not reside in the city

Apathy of residents

Presence of dilapidated housing

Lack of code enforcement

Poor street lighting

Affordability/tax base for housing development

Poor police, fire, and school infrastructure

Upgrade sewage system

Utility taxes redlining/discriminatory housing policies
 
 

ASSUMPTIONS

-Opening up the old creek will help alleviate flooding of streets and homes while creating a beneficial green corridor with walking and biking paths and park space.

-The creek that once ran through Lansdowne was a vital part of the community.

-Beautification of the neighborhood by creating a green corridor will promote neighborhood pride.

-The old creek was engineered underground and now the pipes are deteriorating and will eventually fail completely.

-Architectural features along with the bike path will connect to surrounding neighborhoods and cities and draw people into Lansdowne, thereby contributing to the economy of the community.

-Developing the creek along Morris Avenue will promote new housing development where there is currently vacant land.
