WILLIAM T. BLANKS

Mr. Blanks was born in Shannon, Miss. on October 8, 1943. He is single and a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church where the Rev. Norman Owens is Pastor. Mr. Blanks is ambitious, honest, conscientious, imaginative, sincere and articulate.

As a Black man in this Christian society, I have grown spiritually and am now a minister at Macedonia Baptist Church.

My greatest personal achievement has been my chosen profession and influencing so many students to go into the medical fields, as a teacher.

My adversity in life was my struggle to complete my college education with little or no income at all. I worked my way through college.

My occupations are serving as teacher and preacher. I like encouraging students to become "something" in life and seeing it happen. I also like witnessing for Christ and winning souls at the Macedonia Baptist Church. I am employed as a teacher by School District 189, East St. Louis, Illinois, and I have earned "Master Teacher" status.

MEMBERSHIPS: Young Ministers Alliance; 1966 Who's Who in American Colleges & Universities; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; National Science Teachers Association.

AWARDS: President's Award (upon college graduation); College Graduate with Honors; Best Science Teacher Award - Seven years.

HOBBIES: Interior decorating, fishing, and gardening.

FAVORITE TELEVISION PROGRAMS: DALLAS, SIXTY MINUTES, and YOU ASKED FOR IT

FAVORITE BOOK: "The Call of the Wild" by Jack London. I have always liked this book since first being introduced to it.

Instance of discrimination occurred at a restaurant when the waiter refused to serve my mother and me. I simply asked to see the manager. He came and ordered the employee to serve us.

As a child, my mother always whipped me when I disobeyed. My last bad deed was to slip off and go swimming. Punishment? Whipping!

I live in the Edgemont area of East St. Louis and I find the neighbors kind, friendly, respectful and most of all concerned about each other.
