My greatest personal achievement was obtaining the doctor of philosophy degree and becoming President of State Community College.

An adversity in my life was the death of my Father at the age of nine. I became very close to my mother and along with her counsel, guidance and love was able to overcome his death and achieve.

My occupation is serving State Community College as its Director of Adult and Continuing Education/ Public Service. I enjoy making provisions for those persons who have not completed their High School Education by giving them a second chance and providing services to older adults.

MEMBERSHIPS: President, Board of Directors, Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House; Deacon, Mt. Zion M.B. Church; Chairman, Area Adult Education Advisory Council; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, E. St. Louis Alumni Chapter; St. Clair County Comprehensive Mental Health Center, Board of Directors.

AWARDS: Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Outstanding Achievement Award for North Central Province; Ordination as a Deacon at Mt. Zion M.B. Church; Outstanding Educational Achievement Award, Gamma Phi Delta Business Sorority.

Hobbies are reading, listening to music (spirituals and classical) and sports. Favorite TV programs are GOOD MORNING AMERICA, SIXTY MINUTES and COLUMBO. Favorite Book is "Your Erroneous Zones" by Wayne Dyer. This book has given me much self confidence but not selfishness.

INSTANCE OF DISCRIMINATION: While playing football in high school, during my senior, (I was the Captain) I asked the referee if my teammate had run for a first down. His response to me was, "Don't you know how far he's run?" We were playing a predominantly local White team. I told the referee that he was there to make the measurements and to tell me how far my teammate had run. He looked at me very long and hard and mean and then went and got the measuring stick and measured the yardage and told me it was a first down.

Last Punishment: Before my Father died, he would make me sit in front of him while he kept a belt in his hand. He never struck me with the belt but I was always afraid. This would scare me to death. Later on, I hid one of my shoes so that I wouldn't have to go to Sunday School. My Mother got me by not letting me go to the movies with my friends.

I live in the Edgemont area of East St. Louis, IL. The people in the community are caring, friendly, and respectful of one another. All the children in the area are well-disciplined and respectful toward their elders.
