RAYBORN BOYD
Mr. Boyd was born in East St. Louis, IL on December 2, 1951. He is married to Helen Wilbourn Boyd and their anniversary is Jan. 31st. He is ambitious, cooperative, dependable, efficient, practical and responsible. The Boyds are parents of one son, Rayborn Jr. and two daughters, Natasha Boyd and Marquita Boyd. Children's accomplishments are: My son is a pretty good chess player and an honor student at East St. Louis Senior High School. My daughters are still in elementary school and one is studying the piano and one the clarinet. Both are in the church choir.
I am a plumber and I work for myself. I like my job in that I work for myself and I like seeing my work completed. My only membership is in the Southern Illinois Builders Association. I earned an achievement award as a warehouseman because I knew my job exceptionally well. As a hobby, I like to play racquetball. Favorite television programs are MIAMI VICE, DONAHUE, and The Young and the Restless.Instance of discrimination: During the time I was working on the railroad on low paying jobs, I would see the White fellows come in off of the streets and work along with me for awhile. In a couple of months after I had taught them the job, they would get moved to a better position with better pay. With me, when I complained, they'd give me a different job, no more pay and with the raggiest equipment they would have on hand to try to get the job done. I have always spoken up when I felt I was being mistreated on a job, and I will never take low to any other man if I know I am right. Punishment received as a child: I was not a bad kid because I was the oldest child. I had to quit school because my mother developed cancer and was in and out of the hospital. But the last whipping I got was because of an accident which occurred. My baby sister liked to ride on my back. One morning, I was riding her on my back and she felI off and hit her head on the foot of the bed. It made a bad bruise and a bad scar is on her even until today. Well anyway, I thought my mother was going to kill me she whipped me so hard.An amusing incident which occurred to me which is often referred to in family gatherings happened the day I got married at age 18. My wife was 18 years old too. We went to St. Louis and were married by a preacher over in City Hall. Well, when the preacher said, "Salute the bride," I did just that. I saluted her. I didn't know he meant for me to kiss her. My folks will never let me forget that. I live in the Lansdowne area of East St. Louis. The only thing good about it is the new school, Hawthorne Elementary School. Things need cleaning up and fixing up in my neighborhood. RAYBORN BOYDBACK |
