In 1937 Lowe's Skating came to East St. Louis at 20th & State Streets, in a large tent, and stayed for three or four years. East St. Louisans enjoyed roller skating.

Theaters around town were: of course, the new million-dollar Majestic, Columbia & State Theaters (Lou Menges) later the Roxy & Esquire, St. Clair (8th St. & St. Clair Ave.), Avenue Theater at 219 Collinsville Ave., the Waverly at 40th St. & Waverly Ave, the New Orpheurn (349 Collinsville Ave.), Liberty at 321 Missouri Ave., Home (Gaty) at 17th St. & Gaty Ave., and the Broadway Theater at 1322 Broadway.

Taverns included: Foley & Stephens at 1570 St. Clair Ave., Hammonds, Gene Dowling Nite Club at 1510 State St., John Wilkens "English Inn" at St. Clair & 1st St., Elmer Kreisler, Golden Gloves (Jack Keefe & Audie Boaz), Century, Chuck Stokes (42nd & Forest Blvd.), Spot, Albrechts, Playdium, Bowrnan's, Kieflein, Terrace,: O'Leary's, Joe Bauers, Pat Bowen (2208 State St.), Pat Van' Horn, Myrt & Marge at 6303 State St., Babe & Joe's Madhouse, John Doran, Estlian, Vic Williams, Keeley Cafe at 3600 State St., Adolph Cich, MizuIski's, Clairway Inn, O'Hara's (4500 St. Clair Ave.), W > G. WELL KNOWN DRUG STORES were: Daut (15th St. and Broadway), Oscar Waghalter, Detchmendy, Andy Muenterferring, George Gruenwald's Central Drug, Henry Rohm, Skye Crosstown, Baumeister, and Daut on 9th St.
