The commission consists of 25 appointees by the governor who oversee funding for juvenile programs and assist on matters related to juvenile, justice and delinquency prevention programs and services.

Although she has been appointed to other commissions in the state, O'Brien said this was the most important one to her.

"We have not had a representative from St. Clair County on the commission for more than a decade," O'Brien said. "The governor has honored me with this appointment. I hope to help the children of southwest Illinois by focusing attention on their needs and the needs of our area."

The commission meets in Chicago and Springfield.
