Treaty of Paris ending French and Indian War (so named because the British and Americans fought the French and their Indian allies) cedes territory west of the Appalachians and east of the Mississippi to the British.

French Catholics in America are promised religious freedom by terms of the treaty. Cahokia at this time is a flourishing village while St. Louis doesn't yet exist.
