Site Development

This is the final design for the elderly housing facility in East St. Louis, IL.  The design includes a community space in the front of the building which allows for the interaction between residents, neighborhood residents, and children.  The Alta Sita neighborhood group showed a strong concern for a facility that recognizes the neighborhood children's need.  The facility includes apartments for both independent and assisted living to lessen the amount of transition a resident must encounter.  The rear of the facility includes a pond, courts for horseshoe, and individual gardening plots.  At the urging of the residents, more areas for seating and card playing have been incorporated into the landscape.

Detail of Community Space

This image shows a detail of the front community space.  The area includes a swingset for children of all ages to enjoy.  In addition, numerous spaces for seating have been incorporated to accomodate the residents of both the surrounding neighborhood and the elderly housing facility.  Flowering trees within the space indicate the unique atmosphere of the place.
