The Springfield Project (TSP) is a neighborhood based organization seeking to improve the lives of residents in their community: "The project seeks to empower citizens to develop solutions to problems that they identify in their neighborhood and to foster collaboration among government agencies, service providers, people who want to help, and those who need help."
The East St. Louis Action Research
Project of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has collaborated with
TSP to develop physical design recommendations for East-side Springfield.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has completed several master planning studies in partnership with neighborhood action groups in East St. Louis. This semester we focus on a neighborhood in another Illinois city, Springfield, the state capitol, and on siting and green space development issues associated with neighborhood-wide improvement plans.
Our goal is to communicate creative, feasible
and responsible solutions to the constraints of existing site and neighborhood
conditions, in order to achieve the best quality of life for present and
future residents.
