Edges & Boundaries

(Landscape Ecology Principles in Landscape Architecture & Land-Use Planning: Forman)

Edges and boundaries are green spaces that act as buffer zones around communities and neighborhoods.
Natural edges and boundaries can be anything from a simple line of trees and
shrubbery to a mountainous edge as shown below.

Problems: edge abruptness, lack of coves and lobes

Solutions: higher structural diversity of plant life & creating a natural curvilinear shape of the edge
