Recommendations for Lansdowne Based on Urban Ecology
- Take full advantage of the natural creek system that runs through Lansdowne by creating green corridor that connects the smaller patches of habitat. This would include:
- Excavating and recreating portions of the creek that have been buried underground in pipes. This includes areas from along North Park from Caseyville to Morris.
- Turning this area into a green corridor with natural plantings and clearing of brush and garbage.
- Linking this area to the larger intact creek corridor that runs east-west along and to Jones Park. click here to see green corridor
- Benefits: create a green corridor for species movement, control flooding, recreation
- Limit commercial growth to walkable town corridors or town centers. Promoting walking and cycling rather than vehicular transportation.
- Corridors can be created along Caseyville where previous commercial existed.
- A town center can be created at 40th and Waverly where there is existing commercial.
- If commercial can not be consolidated into corridors or commercial centers make sure adequate public transportation is provided to these destinations.
- Use vacant lots to create patches (small habitats), community gardening, and park space.
- Ensure that all of these are connected by corrridors forming mosaics.
