Transportation
(Sustainable Cities: Haughton & Hunter) Problems:
- Urban Sprawl: This forces people to rely on vehicle transportation rather than walking or cycling.
- Pollution associated with exhaust from vehicles
- Disruption of land for highways and parking lots
Solutions for Lansdowne:
- Promote walking and cycling over car usage. This can be done by investing in walking and cycling trails along the old creek corridor.
What not to do:
- Investment in public transportation. In Lansdowne, money could be invested in bus shelters to promote more residents to use the system.
- Decentralize community activities and services which would promote more vehicle use. If this cannot be done then make sure adequate public transportation is provided.
- Encourage driving through the building of ample parking. Building excessive parking lots makes it more convenient for people to drive without looking into alternative means of transportation.
