Often times we assume that quiet residential areas are the safest, livable areas.  According to Jane Jacobs this is not the case.  Crime will occur more in quiet residential areas as opposed to areas that are active all hours of the day.  People will be discouraged from crime in an active area because they know that they are being watched.  Jane Jacobs stresses this idea of eyes upon the street.  Continuous users lead to more eyes upon the street, which leads to a livable and walkable community.
