“People love activity,
not emptiness.”
– Jane Jacobs
Often times we assume that quiet
residential areas are the safest, livable areas. According to Jane
Jacobs this is not the case. Crime will occur more in quiet residential
areas as opposed to areas that are active all hours of the day. People
will be discouraged from crime in an active area because they know that
they are being watched. Jane Jacobs stresses this idea of eyes upon
the street. Continuous users lead to more eyes upon the street, which
leads to a livable and walkable community.
