Our long term goal is to create a powerful infrastructure
within the Alta Sita community. This infrastructure could be understood
as:
1) a spiritual and ideological bonding between the community
members in terms of their understanding of Democracy and their mutual effort
in achieving the democratic goals.
2) physical infrastructure as a network of communication within
the community.
Our three major design goals are:
1) To tie the community together by the means of creating positive
conditions for outdoor activities:( making the streets more safe
by improving conditions of the street lighting).
2) To create network connection within the street by providing the
street signs and billboards.
3) To build the community center to which all the neighborhood connections
will converge, and that will become a landmark of the nucleus of the community.
One of the important design goals in Alta Sita is to develop a
green stripe of park land between the railroads and the housing area.
what is now a no-one's land could become a vital part of the community.
Streetlights and sidewalks
are
important elements of the safe street environment.
We propose to improve street lighting by the means of installing customized
street lamps throughout the streets of Alta Sita. The design considerations
regarding the street lamps will be determined through the interviews with
Alta Sita inhabitants. Our preliminary idea is to make the lights railroad
referential to emphasize the historic heritage of the area.
A billboard is a simple and an old way
of communicating information within the urban community.
We plan to install a number of customized billboards throughout the
neighborhood to manifest neighborhood activities inform the Alta sita inhabitants
about the upcoming events, and to create a landmark sign for a neighborhood.
These billboards eventually could become the means of public forum within
the neighborhood.
The final long- term goal is a community center
in Alta Sita.
Conceptually we are thinking more of a land mark building that would
become the center of fulfillment of the goals of community organizing in
the area.
We consider a Tower to be an appropriate architectural form that could
be a distinct landmark as well as a functional building.
