Description
Below is a short description of this project.
East St. Louis has been plagued by many economic and social problems over the years. It might seem like East St. Louis is destined to fall off the maps, but there are many things that can be done to re-shape the area. Our group has decided that a "Park Corridor" is exactly what is needed. The "Park Corridor" will be a five-mile stretch of land connecting Frank Holten State Park, located in southern East St. Louis, to theCahokia Mounds State Historic Site further north. It will serve as a passage from one park to the other and as a clean recreational area where people can enjoy the outdoors, while adding value to the surrounding community.
The addition of a unique park and recreation corridor will improve the quality of life for the citizens in the surrounding area. It will be a clean and well-maintained area where people can go to enjoy the outdoors and recreational activities that the corridor will provide. Some of these activities may include hiking along the five mile walking trail, biking, or bird watching. Of course this only a few examples of the numerous activities that the corridor can be used for.
A "Park Corridor" will also be beneficial to East St. Louis because it will become a source of revenue for the local economy. The addition of the park corridor will attract business such as hotels and restaurants that will in turn attract people to visit areas around East St. Louis.
A "Park Corridor" in East St. Louis is a worthwhile project, and is exactly what the area needs. The goal of this web page is to prove that fact. Through benefit/cost analysis, visual quality ratings, cultural and historic evaluations, and land assessment techniques it is our hope that the scope and importance of this project can be realized. Only then will the quality of life, sense of community, and rejuvenation of East St. Louis' economy be attainable.
This map shows the area of East St. Louis that will be affected by the proposed "Park Corridor".
