The Gateway Community Center--through to a better tomorrow
PROJECT SPECIFICS
This proposal focuses on the revitalization of a distressed neighborhood in East St. Louis, IL. Toward the initiation of a revitalization effort we propose to rehabilitate an existing structure into a neighborhood park and community center. The neighborhood center will become a focal point for the neighborhood. It will provide residents easy access to meeting facilities and information on neighborhood issues as well as impetus and focus for further neighborhood improvements.

This proposal considers the adaptive reuse of an approximately 2500 sqft of the above building with an additional 500 sqft proposed additional space. The proposed site is a abandoned school which lies between (within 7 blocks) two areas with a fair number of people. The building is considered to be in good structural condition. Spaces proposed for the new community center use include meeting rooms, multi-purpose space, a daycare facility and a possible small retail space.
