Visual Quality of similar areas to that which can be found in East St. Louis near our proposed site are assessed in two ways--through Expert Evaluation using a Visual Quality Assessment Tool and through a Survey.
Our expert evaluation consisted of looking at and evaluating photographs based on five categories. These categories are:
Vegetation
Landform/Built Form
Amenities
Imagability
Influence of Adjoining Land Use
This tool was constructed and developed through a long process with input from Landscape Architects, Urban Planners, and Architects. After refinement, we feel this tool will be sucessful in accurately depicting the visual quality of photographs.
The survey and the expert evaluation concur in the aspects which add to or detract from the visual quality of an environment.
