Streetscape and Image

Misa Inoue

Streets in East St. Louis are not easy to remember. Vacant lots disrupt continuity and rhythm but, most of all, streets are not memorable because they lack strong images in people's minds. Good street image is critical to help develop expectations of neighborhood activities and qualities. The street with a theme will be better remembered. Several themes are proposed as means of developing strong positive street images for East St. Louis.
