AICP AWARD TO ESLARP

The University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana and the East Saint Louis Action Research Project have been selected to be the recipient of the AICP President's Award. This award was established in 1997 to honor a proactive individual, group or planning programs that has demonstrated a significant contribution to advancing the planning profession. The award will be presented during the APA/AICP awards ceremony to be held at the 2000 National Planning Conference in New York on April 18th in the Hilton Hotel Ballroom.

Cathy Klump and Ken Reardon will be at the Conference to accept the award for ESLARP

MARCH WORK WEEKEND

-Improvement work in Bride of Christ

The Students and Staff members went to the Bride of Christ church and helped in repairing and carpentry work. Students were involved in painting the walls and small renovation works. This work weekend was only for one day and all students worked at the same site.

-Meeting with the residents of Alta Sita neighborhood

The students had lunch with the residents of Alta Sita neighborhood and received a lot of feedback on their various design proposals for an elderly housing in the neighborhood. Each group presented block models and drawings of three different alternatives for the elderly housing.

LA 338/ARCH 372 SPRING CLASS

This joint studio with architecture and landscape design students has been working on two different projects, the ESLARP and Illnios-Springfeild COPC. The students working on ESLARP are improving their designs according to the feedback from the residents of Alta Sita neighborhood on their alternative proposals for the elderly housing project. They are also working on creating an environmental statistical analysis by CityGreen, an ArcView extension. The group working for Springfield COPC conducted a neighborhood survey and are developing a design proposal for implementation in the neighborhood.
