Introduction

 

The primary activity of NTAC during August was the planning of a week-long Grantsmanship Training Program.  This intensive training will be offered to 26 local organizations the week of September 18th.  The training will cost NTAC $15,000 and is funded through a grant made to New Spirit from the Urban Resources Partnership.  All partnering organizations will submit an application to determine their commitment to fundraising.  The training will be led by the Grantsmanship Center in Los Angeles.

 

The Neighborhood Technical Assistance Center provided technical assistance to the following organizations during August, 2000.

 

Alta Sita Community Development Corporation

 

§         Assisted ASDC with the implementation of a $30,000 URP grant to revitalize Virginia Park

§         Conducted planning for future improvements and fundraising for Virginia Park

 

Alta Sita Neighbors, Inc.

 

§         Prepared meeting flyers for August monthly meeting with organization’s members

§         Attended the monthly meeting of ASNI in August

 

Bethabaro Non-Profit Corporation - Brooklyn

 

§         Advised organization on their plans to rehab Garrisson School

 

 

 

Bride of Christ Community Outreach Center

 

§         Began administration of $20,000 URP grant to create a playground at 18th and Gay Avenue in the South End neighborhood

 

City of East St. Louis – City Council

 

§         Attended the City Council committee meetings during the month of August as part of NTAC’s ongoing effort to disseminate city information to our neighborhood partners via the associations’ regular meetings

 

City of East St. Louis – Planning Commission

 

§         Planned and facilitated the August 23rd meeting of the East St. Louis Planning Commission

§         Assembled downtown parcel data information

§         Conducted research on zoning ordinances and comprehensive plans from similarly sized cities

§         Preliminary planning for training of new Planning Commissioners

 

City of East St. Louis - Police Department

 

§         Facilitated August 28th meeting of alumni group

 

Community Awakening Civic Organization – Washington Park

 

§         Assisted CACO in planning an Appreciation Dinner for community volunteers

 

Community Child Care Center

 

§         Conducted architectural programming and research for $29,000 playscape funded by URP

§         Made design presentation to Community Child Care staff and parents

 

Community Development Block Grant Opertions Corporation

 

§         Disseminated information on CDBG’s Public Hearing held on 8/30/00

§         Attended Public Hearing and provided public comment on Year 2001 Action Plan

 

CORO Midwestern Leadership Center

 

§         Consulted on budget development and evaluation tools for CORO’s leadership training programs

 

Dunham Centers for Arts and Humanities

 

§         Continued planning for installation of irrigation system on the grounds of the Artisinal Village – project funded by URP

§         Began planning for second Dunham Ecological Workshop to be held in September or October

 

East St. Louis Community Action Network

 

§         Prepared mailing for August monthly meeting

§         Attended the August monthly meeting of ESL CAN

§         Assisted with administration of Clean Sweep III – ESL CAN’s summer youth employment program funded by the Urban Resources Partnership

 

East – West Gateway Coordinating Council

 

§         Joined EMPACT (funded by EPA) coordination team – will meet every two weeks for progress reports

 

Emerson Park Development Corporation

 

§         Continued teaching an Introduction to Construction Management course for YouthBuild students every Thursday

§         Attended the August monthly meeting of EPDC

§         Participated in YouthBuild consortium meeting

 

Frank Holten State Park

 

§         Met with the IL Parks Department and Massie & Massie Associates to discuss funding for a master plan development for Frank Holten State Park

 

Golden Garden, Inc. - Centreville

 

§         Strategized with GGI for future use of Golden Garden School

 

Greater St. Louis Empowerment Zone

 

§         Continued to serve as a “Community Information Center” for the Empowerment Zone

§         Attend meeting regarding poverty – mentor initiatives

§         Responded to questions from IRS regarding 501c3 application

 

 

 

 

Housing Authority of East St. Louis

 

§         Further discussed possible collaboration to set-up Geographic Information System for Housing Authority and train HA staff

§         Met with Ruby Mister to discuss the “Advancement through Technical Skills” project that would train high school students in AutoCAD while delivering as-built digital drawings to the Housing Authority

§         Advised HA on 501c3 application

 

Land of LIncoln Legal Assistance Foundation

 

§         Prepared a cost estimate on faulty contractor work for a current lawsuit

 

Lansdowne Neighborhood Steering  Committee

 

§         Attended and helped prepare for the August meeting of the LNSC

 

Metropolitan Association of Philanthropy

 

§         Visited MAP to learn more about their grantsmanship services so that information could be shared with community partners

 

Neighbors United for Progress - Centreville

 

§         Administration of URP grant for a landscaped lot at 43rd and Market

§         Implementation of landscaping project – in kind labor support

 

New Beginnings Out Reach Ministries - Centreville

 

§         Continued assisting in the planning of a $20,000 URP proposal to landscape a parcel at 52nd and Cottenbelt in Centreville

 

Newberns Bible Institute - Brooklyn

 

§         Responded to questions from IRS regarding 501c3 application

 

New Spirit Neighborhood Organizing Office

 

§         Continued planning for week-long Grantsmanship Training Program scheduled for September 18 – 22

§         Developed flyers, application and press releases to advertise Grantsmanship Training Program

§         Selected training site and handled all logistics

§         Recruited community participants from 26 different organizations

§         Organized “Funder Day” for last day of Grantsmanship Training program, September 22nd
