Weekend Reportby Vicki Eddings, ESLARP Administrative Coordinator
The
Summer Outreach Weekend was a huge success! We ended up with only 7 student
volunteers but we finished two projects. Friday most of the students cleared
an alleyway of debris and shrubery in the South End so elderly residents could
access their driveways via the alley, while Gary Kesler, Brian Kesler and Rob
Turck started working on the AIM 3 to 4-acre lot that needed to be cleared in
preparation for the new recreation plan for the youth center/school. Saturday
all 6 students, Gary, Justin, Stanford Scott, two residents and I successfully
uncovered a 30-40 foot fence (the residents tell us most of the youth didn't
even know there was a fence there!), mowed over 3 acres of weeds (mostly with
an ancient weed mower) and cut down and removed a huge tree, the fire should
still be burning!
Thanks
to Justin for organizing the weekend and to Brian, Rob, Linda, Bob, Michael,
Derek and Steven for volunteering their time and, I have no doubt, enduring
a strong case of poison ivy.
