Hosting an International Planning Conference

More than 350 planners from the United States, Central America and Europe gathered in East St. Louis for the 1995 Planners Network Conference, Linking Citizen Action and Equity Planning. Co-sponsored by ESLARP, the Winstanley/ Industry Park Neighborhood Organization, the City of East St. Louis and the Planners Network, it was the first professional conference held in East St. Louis in nearly two decades.

The conference featured a variety of keynote addresses and workshops regarding issues such as affordable housing, environmental justice, crime prevention and community empowerment. Conference attendees also worked with leaders of East St. Louis neighborhood organizations and municipal agencies to explore solutions to a variety of urban problems.
