FAA 391 students' research from Fall 2010 gets published in a textbook on homelessness

In the 2010 Fall Semester, students in FAA 391 researched best practices of Permanent Supportive Housing models for housing the homeless.  They published a report which was presented to the Cities of Champaign and Urbana.  Part of this report was published by Greenhaven Press in their textbook series, "Opposing Viewpoints".  Read the original report here.

Action Research.Illinois (AR.I), sought applications from faculty who are interested and qualified to act as AR.I Faculty Mentors. AR.I Mentors take part in a series of four AR.I Faculty Affiliate workshops in the Spring of 2012 and serve on a panel of mentors for individuals who receive AR.I Course Development Grants in the 2012 funding cycle. Through the panel of mentors and workshop series, AR.I seeks to support the successful development and short and long-term implementation of sustainable (new or substantially revised) courses that incorporate interdisciplinary action-research/service-learning pedagogy with committed community partners in East Central Illinois. The current goals of the Program include:
·         Increasing the number and variety of courses at Illinois that incorporate community engagement within East Central Illinois
·         Involving more University of Illinois faculty and departments in offering community engagement experiences within undergraduate and graduate coursework
·         Supporting the integration of interdisciplinary action research/service learning in the campus curriculum
Expectations of Mentors
AR.I expects that mentors will:
  • Take part in four 1-2 hour workshops during Spring 2012 with individuals who receive AR.I Course Development Grants
  • Serve on a panel of mentors for individuals who receive AR.I Course Development Grants in the 2012 funding cycle
  • Act as a resource for grantees from the AR.I Course Development Grants in the 2012 funding cycle
